Item Coversheet Page 1 of 1
M
Public Works
DATE: 3/12/2018
MEMO: 2018-10
TO: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council
FROM: Tim Gleason,City Manager
Matt Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director
Keith Alexander,Water Production Manager
SUBJECT:
Resolution Authorizing Approval of Quote for Rotary Lobe Pump from Flo-Systems,Inc.for South Water Treatment Plant
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the purchase of a Rotary Lobe Pump from Flo-Systems, Inc., at a cost of
$20,141.00.
BACKGROUND:
The South Water Treatment Plant has four pumps that transfer aluminum sulfate(a water purification chemical)from the basement
to the first floor of the facility. The pumps are original to the plant, they are 30 years old and have been rebuilt several times over
the years. They have reached the end of their reliable service life. City staff has researched pump alternatives and recommends
purchasing a different type of pump (rotary lobe) that should be more durable and require less rebuilds than the current type.
Rotary lobe pumps have fewer moving parts and can be maintained without significant reconstruction work.
The City received three quotes for a replacement rotary lobe pump:
Flo-Systems,Inc. $20,141.00
Industrial Process Equipment Group $27,041.66
Vandevanter Engineering $30,960.00
The low bidder meeting specifications was Flo-Systems,Inc.(quote attached).
City staff recommends purchasing one rotary lobe pump from Flo-Systems,Inc.to install and operate for an extended time period.
If the new pump performs as reported, the City Council will then be requested to approve the purchase of three more identical
pumps.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: None on this subject.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None foreseen.
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell,Public Works Director,424-2747.Keith Alexander,Water Production Manager,424-
2863.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: This expenditure is included in the Public Works Water Capital Fund 81.
COPY: Tom Caraker,Jr.,Flo-Systems,Inc.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
Resolution Resolution Letter
Quote 13ackup Material
https://decatur.novusagenda.com/AgendaWeb/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=1441 3/16/2018
