Item Coversheet Page 1 of 2 <br /> Economic&Community Development <br /> DATE: 4/2/2018 <br /> MEMO: No. 18-09 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council <br /> FROM: Tim Gleason,City Manager <br /> Raymond Lai,AICP,Economic and Community Development Director <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Resolution Receiving and Filing Codes for Public Inspection <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> The Building Inspections and Neighborhood Inspections Divisions of the Department of Economic and Community Development <br /> along with the Deputy Fire Chief are drafting updates to certain chapters of City Codes(from the 2009 versions of Building Code, <br /> Residential Building Code,Mechanical Code,Fuel Gas Code,Fire Code and Property Maintenance Code to the 2015 version)and <br /> National Electrical Code(from the 201 Iversion to 2014 version).The Department would recommend receiving and filing of the <br /> proposed drafts to allow the City Council and the general public the opportunity to view these documents a minimum of thirty <br /> days prior to consideration by the Council for actual adoption. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> These codes are used by Building Inspections staff,Neighborhood Inspection Officers,and the Deputy Fire Chief s office as their <br /> model codes for evaluating new and existing structures for compliance to minimum standards recognized nationwide for life safety <br /> and maintenance.The code books are required to be on file for at least thirty days prior to the actual adoption of the codes.We will <br /> submit a recommendation for adoption after that time and will include any additions,deletions,or substitutions that would be <br /> specific to our jurisdiction at that time. <br /> The actual adoption verbiage and code changes will be spelled out in the City Codes as follows: <br /> Chapter 67-Building Code <br /> Chapter 67.2-Residential Building Code <br /> Chapter 68-Mechanical Code <br /> Chapter 69-Electrical Code <br /> Chapter 44-Fire Prevention and Hazardous Materials Control <br /> Chapter 70-Property Maintenance Code <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None that we are aware of. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: <br /> Code adoptions and changes specific to our jurisdiction for the Building Code,Residential Building Code,Mechanical Code,and <br /> Electrical Code will be reviewed by the Construction and Housing Board of Appeals,Heating&Air Conditioning and <br /> Refrigeration Commission,and Electrical Commission respectively.
