Item Coversheet Page 1 of 2 <br /> in <br /> Public Works <br /> DATE: 4/25/2018 <br /> MEMO: 2018-18 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Pro Tempore Dana Ray and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Timothy Gleason,City Manager <br /> Matthew C.Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director <br /> Deborah M.Perry,Purchasing Supervisor <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid and Authorizing the Execution of a Contract with Homer Tree Care,Inc.,for Removal <br /> of Trees and Brush on City Property <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve,that the Mayor be authorized to sign,and the City Clerk attest to the <br /> following resolutions: <br /> 1. A contract for tree removal on various City rights of way to Homer Tree Care,Inc.in the amount of$32,470. <br /> 2. A contract to remove the brush and trees along William Street Rd.(State Route 105)embankment on the north side adjacent to <br /> Lake Decatur to Homer Tree Care,Inc.in the amount of$35.000. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The boulevard trees are large dead and dying trees consisting mainly of ash trees which are being attacked by the Emerald Ash <br /> Borer and have been identified as potential hazards. The trees and brush along the lake are being removed for shoreline <br /> protection. <br /> Contractors for City Projects shall comply with City Code Chapter 28,Article 10,"Minority Participation Goals for Public Works <br /> Contracts". <br /> Contractors for City Projects shall make a good faith effort to comply with the following minimum goals: <br /> 1.Ten(10)percent of the total dollar amount of the contract should be performed by Minority Business Enterprises <br /> if subcontracting opportunities are available;and <br /> 2. Eighteen(18)percent of the total hours worked should be performed by minority workers. <br /> Subcontracting is not a requirement for City Projects. Homer Tree Care,Inc.will self-perform 100%of the contract. Homer Tree <br /> Care,Inc.has provided documentation showing a good faith effort was made to comply with the goals.
