The normal life expectancy is four(4)years.
The City has been informed that the Ford Motor Company is cutting off new vehicle ordering for the Ford SUV Police Interceptor
vehicles by September 21, 2018, or when plant manufacturing capacity has been reached,in order to close the manufacturing plant
to re-tool for a completely redesigned vehicle. Any orders after the cutoff date will delay the purchase and receipt of the requested
vehicles for as much as one year. Using the State of Illinois bid process will allow the City to purchase the budgeted Police
vehicles during this fiscal year as needed.
City staff is concerned that delaying the purchase of the requested six(6)vehicles will significantly increase the difficulty in
maintaining a safe and efficient Police interceptor fleet.
The replacement vehicles are estimated to be delivered in 180 days.
DISPOSAL OF REPLACED UNITS: The six vehicles to be replaced will be sold/auctioned at a later date.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
OTHER BIDDERS: Purchase,if approved, occurring as part of the State of Illinois bid process.
