Northeas
"OMNO :.3Nti
August 17,2018
Dear Members of the Decatur City Council,
The Northeast Community Fund (EIN has been serving the most vulnerable Macon County
residents for the last 49 years. What began as a small food pantry has grown into a critical social impact
organization. Every week we assist hundreds of families with basic needs such as food, clothing,
household goods and monies for things like baby formula and wipes, emergency lodging, obtaining IDs,
prescription medicines, and utility payments. We also offer two programs that are meant to help the
working poor move towards financial independence. The first is a micro-finance program that allows
clients to eradicate their pay day or title loan in an amount up to$1000. The second program is a 3-year
commitment from families to work with a staff member and mentor to achieve short and long term
goals to move towards self-sufficiency.
Northeast Community Fund is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds for a new facility located
at 839 N. MLK Jr.St. Our current space is limiting our ability to provide the best services we can to all
who seek our help. We hosted a successful ground breaking in July and want to continue momentum to
finish the fundraising efforts. In this spirit,we would like to host a fundraiser event on September 29,
2018 that would include the closure of Merchant St.from 2pm until midnight. The farm to table themed
evening event will require action and authority from the Council,as alcohol will be served on a public
right of way. Rodney Powell,of Robbie's Grill, will be securing a caterer's license from the City and
securing the required signatures/approval from Merchant St.businesses and tenants. Northeast
Community Fund will be contacting the appropriate representatives from the Police, Fire and Streets
divisions for approval,as well.
We would appreciate approval by the Council to host this event. Please see the below contacts for
further questions or concerns.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Regan Deering Jerry Pelz
Board Member&Capital Campaign Chair,- Executive Director,-
