Many of the inuiucipalities will be adopting the 2015 or even the 2018 version of these codes this year. By updating ours we
will be aligned with the other communities.
The language for actual adoption of these codes as well as any additions, delerions,or amendments that are specific to Decatur
are shown in our City Code Chapters 44,6'7,67.2,68,69,and 70(copies of which are attached). We have eliminated most
changes that were done the last time we adopted new codes. This time we are for the most part adopting those codes"as is"
without many alterations. This will be easier for building designers, contractors and property owners to navigate through when
deternuning requirements for building in our jurisdiction.
One significant requirement that was added to the Residential Building Code beginiung in 2009 was for new single-family homes
to have sprinklers installed. As with all other cotrurnmities in downstate Illinois,we elected to delete that requirement and will
continue to do so until such time when it becomes more feasible for builders to include in an already tight housing market or if it
is mandated by State L.aw.
The goal of these codes and their enforcement is to create and maintain a safe environment for our citizens in their homes,
workplace, and other public buildings.Understanding the importance of encouraging new development and construction in our
coirnnunity,we strive to maintain a"friendly"envirornnent for those who wish to live or do business here.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None we are aware of
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Changes to City Code Chapters 67 and 67.2 were reviewed, discussed and approved by the Construction and Housing Board of
Appeals. Changes to City Code Ctapter 69 were reviewed and approved by the Electrical Commission and changes to City
Code Chapter 68 were reviewed and approved by the Heating,Air Conditioning and Refrigeration commission.
STAFF REFERENCE: For Building,Electrical,Mechanical and Fuel Gas Code:Ray Lai,Director of Economic&
Conununity Development rlai@decaturil.gov 217-424-2727 For Fire Code:Dan Kline,Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention and
Adnunistration dkline@decaturil.gov 217-424-2811 For Properiy Maintenance Code: Susan Kretsinger,Neighborhood
Inspections Administrator skretsmger@decaturil.gov 217-424-2783
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
Ordinance Ordinancc
Meeringminutes E3ackup Matc:al
