Many of the mutvcipalities wili be adopting the 2Q15 or even the 20l 8 version af these codes this year. By updating ours we
will be aligned with the other communities.
The Ianguage for actual adoption of these codes as well as any additions, deletions,or axrndints tlt are specific to Decatur
are shown in our City Code Chapters 44,67,67.2,68,69,and 70(copies of which are attached). We have eliminated most
changes that were done the last tirne we adopted new codes. This time we are for the most part adopting those codes"as is"
without many aiterations. This wiil be easier for building designers, contractors and properiy owners to navigate through when
detemuning requirements for building in our jurisdiction.
C>ne significant requiremerrt that was added ta the Residential Building Code beg in 2009 was for new single-family homes
to have sprinklers installed. As with all ather cornmunities in downstate Illinais,we elected to delete that requirement and will
continue tp do so until such tiwhen it becorresre feasible for buiiders ta irsclude in an already tight housing market or if it
is rnandated by State Law.
The goal of these codes al tir enforcement is ta create andintain a safe envirornnt far our citizens in ttir has,
workplace, and ather public buildings. Understanding the irnportance of encouraging new developrnent and construction in our
carnmunity,we strive to maintain a"friendly"envirornnent for those who wish to live or do business here.
PC}TENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None we are aware af
INPUT FROM QTHER SOURCES:
Changes ta City Code Chapters 67 and 67.2 were reviewed, discussed and approved by the Construction and Hausing Board af
Appeals. Changes to City Code Ctapter 69 were reviewed and approved by the Electrical Commission and changes to City
Code Clapter 6$were reviewed and approved by the Heating,Air Corniitioning and Refrigeratian cammissian.
STAFF REFERENCE: For Building,Electrical,Mecharrical and Fuel Gas Code: Ray Lai,Director af Economic&
Coiruiunity Development rlai@decatuil.gov 217-424-2727 For Fire Code: Dan Kline,Deputy Chief of Fira Prevention and
Arniiustration dkline@decaturil.gov 217-424-2811 For Property Maintenance Code: Susan Kretsinger,Neighbarhood
Inspections Administrator skretsingerGdecatizril.gov 217-424-2783
ATTACHMENTS:
Descriprion Type
Ordinance Oriinancc
Meeringtninutes l3ackup Maiecial
