Main St.;Anderson <br /> Backhoe Service,Inc. for the demolition of 954 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.;Hutchins Excavating for the demolition of 1646 E. <br /> Prairie;and JRH Services Inc. for the demolition of 1850 E. William St. <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Staff recommends approval of the following resolutions approving demolitions with Steve's Trucking,Inc.for$36,448 for the <br /> demolition of 965 East Main Street,Anderson Backhoe Service,Inc. for$33,925 for the demolition of 954 South Martin Luther <br /> King Jr. Drive,Hutchins Excavating for$23,960 for the demolition of 1646 East Prairie and JRH Services Inc.for$33,868 for <br /> the demolition of 1850 East William Street. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The four subject dwellings are among the twelve that are targeted to be demolished in the near future and,if the resolutions are <br /> approved,it would mean that there are a total of 28 structures either under contract or that have been tom down in recent weeks. <br /> The agreement are presented for your consideration as each exceeds the$20,000 cost threshold warranting City Council review. <br /> The resolutions would authorize the agreements beriveen the City and the following contractors: <br /> • Steve's Trucking,Inc. for$36,448 for the demolition of 965 East Main Street(demolition cost is$8,948 and asbestos <br /> removal costs are$27,500); <br /> • Anderson Backhoe Service,Inc. for$33,925 for the demolition of 954 South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (demolition cost <br /> is$9,625 and asbestos removal is$24,300); <br /> • Hutchins Excavating for$23,960 for the demolition of 1646 East Prairie(demolition cost is$6,960 and asbestos removal is <br /> $17,000);and <br /> • JRH Services Inc. for$33,868 for the demolirion of 1850 East William Street(demolition cost is$11,160 and asbestos <br /> removal is$22,708). <br /> There have been questions about our reasoning for selecting the properties now being pursued for demolished. The selected <br /> properties are among a grouping considered to be"the worst of the worsY'regardless of location and that needed to come down <br /> first. While the pursuit of future demolitions can be more strategic in nature,experts dealing with similar issues in other <br /> communiries also have concurred with this practice. <br /> The other eight property addresses(and costs)from this group of twelve are as follows: <br /> 2019 E.North-$13,640 <br /> 757 E.
