Fire Depariment DATE: 8/12/2019 ME MO: 19-09 TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe City Council Members FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager Jeff Abbott,Fire Chief Rich Pruitt,Deputy Fire Chief SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid of Dinges Fire Company for the Purchase of Fire Fighting Tumout Gear for New Hires and for Replacement Gear as Required SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: The Fire Department seeks to purchase turnout gear from Dinges Fire Company. The tumout gear consists of the Globe G- Xtreme 3.0 coat and pants set. BACKGROUND: The turn out gear proposed for acquisition will be used by the Fire Department and will replace sets that are 5 years old and older. The National Fire Protection Association requires turn out gear be replaced when needed,but no older than 10 years old. The Fire Department replaces their gear on a 5-year cycle because they have found that to be most cost effective. The Fire Department will be purchasing turnout gear for new hires and replacement gear as required throughout the contract period. The bid of Dinges Fire Company for the Globe G-Xtreme 3.0 style turnout gear meets the City of Decatur specifications. BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: This expenditure of $1,395.00 per Tumout Coat, and $975.00 per Turnout Pant, for one (1) year is included in the Fire Department General Fund. Costs for year 2 and 3 contract extensions shall be subject to an adjushnent only if increases occur in the industry. However,increases shall not exceed 3%per year.
