Financial Management
DATE: 10/30/2019
MEMO: Letter to the Decatur City Council Financial Management Department 2019- 12
TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager
Gregg D. Zientara,City Treasurer&Director of Finance
BACKGROUND: The city armually provides an estimated tax levy report prior to actual adoption of the levy. The proposed
property tax levy reflects direction provided by the City Council at their August 6 study session to keep property taxes level(in
dollars, not necessarily in rate)for the average residenrial property tax payer while still capturing new taxes that should
reasonably be eected from new armeJcations and new construction projects. In this way,we anticipate a slight increase in
aggregate property tax revenues, but no increase in taxes for individual property owners who have made no improvements in their
real estate since last year. Depending on township and school district, the city of Decatur's property tax levy is between 15 and
17%of the total levy paid by property owners, with the balance levied and paid to the school district, county, park district and
the many other overlapping units of local government in Macon County.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
Resolution C'o1 cr1emo
E}chibit A C'<n cr Mcmo
