Sky's the Limit Tree Service, Inc., in the amount of$39,800 to remove brush and trees along US Route 51 and Lincoln
Park Drive embankments(Area 4 and 5)
BACKGROUND:
Tree Removal
The boulevard trees to be removed by Homer Tree Care, Inc. are large dead and dying trees consisting mainly of ash trees which
are being attacked by the Emerald Ash Borer and have been identified as potential hazards. The trees and brush along the lake are
being removed for shoreline protection.
Road US Route 51 and Lincoln Park Drive Tree and Brush Clearing
The trees and brush along the West side of US Route 51 and Lincoln Park Drive next to the lake are being removed to open up the
view of the Lake. Past Councils have requested that these major transportation routes be cleared of the trees and brush that block
the view of the Lake. This has since been an annual project for many years. Much of this area is riprap so ground cover
establishment won't be a concern at this time. The removal stops short on the east end to provide a buffer to reduce highway noise
affecting area residents. After having earlier discussion with the Conservation District on these (2) current areas before bid the
process,Conservative does not think these are acceptable areas for a restoration project.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Forestry and Lake Maintenance Sections requested the removals and wrote the specifications.
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell,Director of Public Works,424-2747.Dan Mendenall,Municipal Services Manager,Randy
Callison,City Forester and Property Maintenance Supervisor,875-4820,Joe Nihiser,Lake Maintenance Supervisor,424-2837,
Keith Alexander,Water Production Manager,424-2863.Matt will be at the meeting to answer questions the council may have
about this purchase.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
$62,500—Funds budgeted in the Hazardous Tree Removal line item in the Forestry Operating budget.
$39,800—Funds budgeted in Lake Maintenance Contractual Services line item.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
https://decatur.novusagenda.com/AgendaWeb/CoverSheet.aspx?ltemlD=3060 1/2
