Information Technology <br /> DATE: 4/19/2021 <br /> MEMO: 2021-04 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council <br /> FROM: James Edwards,Director Information Technology Department <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Resolution Authorizing an Intergovernmental Agreement(IGA)for the Construction and Installation of Fiber Optic Cable <br /> Extensions to the City Fiber Optic Network to various School District Properties located on Rights of Way between the City of <br /> Decatur and Decatur Public School District. <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Staff recommends that City Council approve the attached resolution, authorizing an IGA for sharing of certain costs for the <br /> construction and installation of extensions to the City Fiber Optic Network for the purpose of connecting School District <br /> Properties. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The City of Decatur has received a State of Illinois Grant and the Decatur Public School District has applied for a similar State <br /> of Illinois Grant. The grant received by the City of Decatur is being used to extend the reach of the City Fiber Optic Network <br /> for the purpose of making it more accessible to area businesses, other government entities and connect three Firehouse <br /> buildings. The Decatur Public School District has applied for their own State of Illinois Grant to further extend the City Fiber <br /> Optic Network for the purpose of connecting School District Properties together. <br /> The IGA agreement referenced as Exhibit A is included in the attached Resolution.
