Date: May 3,2021
To: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe
Decatur City Council Members
From: City Manager Scot Wrighton
Chief James E. Getz Jr.
Subject: Agreement between the City of Decatur and the Public Safety Training
Foundation for the Use of the VirTra V-300 Training System
BRIEFING MEMO
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve this agreement with the Public Safety Training
Foundation. The VirTra V-300 System is a state of art training simulator which puts officers in
real life training scenarios. The Officers are forced to use their judgement, experience and
training to make split second decisions.
BACKGROUND:
The VirTra V-300 System is a state of art training simulator which puts officers in real life
training scenarios. The Officers are forced to use their judgement, experiences, and training to
make split second decisions. The City of Decatur Police Department continues to recognize the
need for current and real- life training. The agreement would allow the Decatur Police
Department to have access to their own VirTra System to use for training any time of day or
night which allows even third shift to do on-shift training.
This has been an item the Chief of Police has wanted for several years, but after getting some
costs realized this could not be fit into the police budget.
