SHORELINE <br /> CLASSIC <br /> TO: Julie Moore Wolfe <br /> Scot Wrighton <br /> Shoreline Classic is truly hoping to be out of tier 4 mitigation and running a proper and exciting <br /> race this year. <br /> As we are trying to make the best decision possible for the safety of our runners,these are some <br /> of the thoughts we have for special precautions for race day Sept 19th 2021 if we can run but still <br /> have to have precautions set up. <br /> Two and maybe three packet pick ups to lesson lines pre-race day. Since we have had two pre- <br /> race pick ups with computer entry we have streamlined this process,over 50%of our entries are <br /> completely processed before the race with lines less than 20 at any one time. 6ft spacing <br /> possible. <br /> Race Day itself- We expect 600 to 1000 runners for the two races, a 5K and a 15K, last year was <br /> just a little over 700 entrants so we will use a number of 350 per race and 200 volunteers. <br /> Possible 6 waves to each race start,ample room for spreading out but racing will group up at <br /> times. Would need extended road closure for wave starts and of course police coordination. May <br /> even move the race to Fairview if need be. <br /> On course support supplied with masks and gloves(water stations and such). <br /> As far as the finish line and after party goes. <br /> Medals would be handed out as individuals cross the finish line,PPE worn by volunteers. <br /> Race awards for finishing times would be passed out for certified finishers, with our race timing <br /> (Big River Race Management)we can do this with some efficiency as times are instantly <br /> processed. Lines and distancing can be achieved. <br /> WE would NOT be having a after party this year under these conditions.As finishers receive <br /> their finish medals,they would then be directed to simple food distribution, apples bananas and <br /> water and than directed back to their vehicles to leave. <br /> We would need to work with HSHS St Mary's,Decatur Park District,Decatur Police <br /> Department on this plan. <br /> This plan goes of course with porta potties,hand sanitation stations and masks being offered but <br /> not required. <br /> Shoreline Classic would be running its 32'year in this community. The race has become a <br /> central Illinois event and is a diverse event inviting walkers to Olympic qualifiers over the past <br /> years. We have supported many charities over the years but first and foremost is high school <br /> athletics and our auxiliary police department <br />
