City Clerk
DATE: 8/12/2021
MEMO:
TO: Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council
FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager
Jon Kindseth,Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid and Authorizing the Execution of a Contract with Felmley Dickerson for the
Construction of New Fire Station#7.
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the contract be approved so that the contractor can begin work
this year. This station will be the exact same design as Fire Station#3,now being completed on North Fairview. Fehnley
Dickerson was also awarded the contract for Station#3.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The consultant's recommendation was that the city leave the current airport location,
because it can better serve areas east of Lake Decatur from a new location, and because Station#7 no longer meets the city's
needs. The current Station#7 structure was built in the 1960s and is owned by the Park District. The Park District is not happy
about the city's decision to leave the airport location, but they are receiving ARP money that will be used for a new fire response
structure on the grounds of the airport. The Park District's airport staff currently man their aviation fire apparatus, and they will
continue to do so after the city relocates Station V. As it has in the past, the city will back-up the Park District/Airport fire
personnel as necessary.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: In addition to fire station bond funds, the City Council anticipated the need for most of
the additional funds required to complete this project from reimbursed CURE money, when they adopted a budget amendment on
August 2.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
Council Memo for Station 7 Construction Cover Memo
Resolution Accepting the Bid and Authorizing the
Execution of a Contract with Fel neley-Dickerson Co.
