ARTICLE 3 <br /> UNION SECURITY <br /> Section 1. Upon written authorization by an employee filed with the Director of <br /> Finance thereof, the City shall deduct from the wages or salary of such employee such sum as is <br /> certified by the Treasurer of the Union as initiation fee,assessment,and monthly union dues,which <br /> sum so deducted shall be delivered to the Union Treasurer on or before the 15th day of the month <br /> next succeeding the month in which such deductions are made. If any employee does not have a <br /> check coming to him or such check is not large enough to satisfy said deductions, no deduction <br /> shall be made from the wages or salary of such employee for that month. <br /> Section 2. Upon written authorization by an employee filed with the Director <br /> of Finance,the City shall deduct from the wages or salary of such employee such sum as is certified <br /> by the City or the Treasurer of the Union as premium payment for enrollment in the City or Union <br /> dental and/or vision insurance plans. The deductions shall be made on a twice-per-month basis. <br /> Section 3 (a). Although it is agreed that union membership is not a mandatory condition <br /> of employment for any employee covered by this Agreement, any employee covered by this <br /> Agreement employed before the date of this Agreement, except as provided in sub-paragraph (b) <br /> hereof,who has become a Union member or becomes a Union member at any time during the term <br /> of this Agreement,shall continue to pay to the Union those dues or fees regularly charged members <br /> of the Union in good standing for the life of this Agreement(except as otherwise provided herein <br /> for withdrawal of membership). <br /> (b). An employee hired after the date of this Agreement and covered by this Agreement <br /> who, after completing thirty(3 0) calendar days of employment voluntarily joins the Union, shall <br /> be subject to the same terms of continued membership as employees in Section 3(a) above. <br /> (c). Every employee who is a member of the Union shall have the right to withdraw <br /> from membership with notice to the Union and the City. <br /> Section 4. The Union shall indemnify the City and any department of the City and hold <br /> it harmless against any and all claims, demands, suits or other forms of liability that may arise out <br /> of, or by reason of, any action taken by the City or any department of the City for the purpose of <br /> complying with the provisions of this Article. <br /> ARTICLE 4 <br /> INTERRUPTION OF DUTY <br /> Section 1. While this memorandum is in effect it is understood that there shall be no <br /> strike, lock out, slow down,unauthorized absenteeism or interruption of duty or other interference <br /> with the efficient operation of the police service. <br /> 3 <br />
