9/10/21,3:02 PM Item Coversheet
Im
Public Works
DATE: 9/10/2021
MEMO: 2021-75
TO: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager
Matt Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director
Keith Alexander,Water Production Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of a Peristaltic Pump from Vandevanter Engineering Co. for South Water
Treatment Plant
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the purchase of one Verderflex Dura 65 peristaltic pump for the South Water
Treatment Plant from Vandevanter Engineering Co.at a cost of$26,861 including freight.
BACKGROUND:
The South Water Treatment Plant has three pumps that transfer brine(salt water)to the ion exchange vessels for regeneration at the
nitrate reduction facility. The regeneration removes the alkalinity, nitrates and sulfates from the anion resin in the vessels and
returns the resin to the chloride form for reuse. One of the original 19 year old pumps was rebuilt around 5 years ago when repair
parts were still available, and is predicted to still be reliable for another 5 years or longer.
Since repair parts are no longer available, last year the City Council authorized the purchase of a Vandevanter peristaltic pump to
replace the second original 19 year old pump that had reached the end of its useful life. The pump has performed extremely well
since being installed. This year the third original pump is reaching the end of its useful life and is recommended to be replaced
with a Vandevanter pump similar to the one purchased last year. Quotations from other firms were not requested since the
Vandevanter pump has performed extremely well and it is desired that the pumps be from the same manufacturer to standardize
maintenance.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
On February 24,2020 the City Council authorized the purchase of a similar Vandevanter pump for$25,208.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None foreseen.
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell,Public Works Director,424-2747.Keith Alexander,Water Production Manager,424-2863.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
This expenditure will be funded from the Public Works Water Capital Fund 81.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of Peristalic Pump
from Vandevanter Engineering Co.for South Water Resolution Letter
Treatment Plant
https:Udecatur.novusagenda.com/AgendaWeb/CoverSheet.aspx?ltemlD=3552 1/1
