Fire Department
DATE: 11/5/2021
MEMO: 2021-14
TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council
FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager
Jeff Abbott,Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Resolution adding additional funds for the repair of 2006 Pierce ladder truck by Pierce Manufacturing
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council approve the attached Resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into an
agreement with Pierce Manufacturing for the repair of the ladder truck not to exceed$53,000.00.
BACKGROUND: The ladder truck is a 2006 Pierce Dash that has been out-of-service since September 2019. In February of
2020,the council approved a resolution for the repair of the frame rails, torque box and aerial ladder. The truck's repair was
delayed because of COVID shutdowns and did not go to Pierce for repair until April 2020. The truck was dismantled at the
repair facility and additional extensive corrosion was discovered. The additional repairs need to be made so that the truck will
pass certification testing. Once repaired, the truck will be used as the reserve ladder truck for 5-7 additional years.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: February 2020,the council approved the initial repairs.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
STAFF REFERENCE: Jeff Abbott,Fire Chief;Chris Bergschneider,Fleet Maintenance Supervisor;Jim Ohl,Deputy Fire
Chief
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
The repair for the original corrosion issue is underway. This additional work should be completed within 1-2 months.
This repair was not included in the 2021 budget because the final cost was not known at the time the budget was completed. The
funds for repair are available in the Fund 61,Fire Capital, and they will be reconciled later in the year with council's budget
authorization.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ADDITIONAL
FUNDS FOR THE REPAIR OF 2006 PIERCE Resolution Letter
LADDER TRUCK BY PIERCE MANUFACTURING
