3/1/22,3:01 PM Item Coversheet <br /> Public Works <br /> DATE: 2/28/2022 <br /> MEMO: 2022-15 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager <br /> Matthew C.Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director <br /> Jessica Taylor,Purchasing Supervisor <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> Resolution Accepting the Bid of Paul Tree Farms LLC to Provide and Plant Trees for the City of Decatur <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve,the Mayor be authorized to sign,and the City Clerk attest to a resolution <br /> awarding a Purchase Order to Paul Tree Farms for$145,725,as the lowest qualified bidder to provide and plant new trees at <br /> various locations. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The City recently received bids to provide and plant trees at various locations in the City as identified below: <br /> Replacement Trees Downtown <br /> The City Council budgeted$80,000 for planting new trees in Fiscal Year 2022. A portion of those funds were planned to be used <br /> to replace dead trees in the downtown area. Twenty-nine trees in the downtown area have been flagged for replacement. <br /> 22nd Street Trees <br /> In 2021,the Decatur In Bloom organization approached the City requesting assistance in getting bids to provide and plant trees <br /> within the State right-of-way on 22nd Street between Garfield Avenue and Pershing Road. The trees are mainly concentrated in <br /> front of the old Firestone building and the large island at Pershing/22°d. Thirty trees were requested. It is expected that 100%of <br /> these funds will be reimbursed by Decatur In Bloom. <br /> John's Hill Neighborhood <br /> The City Council entered into an agreement with the Buffet Foundation to provide trees in the John's Hill neighborhood. A portion <br /> of the funds were to provide boulevard trees and a portion for private trees. The bid was broken out into areas with possible utility <br /> conflicts requiring extra care and areas without utility conflicts.The proposal was to provide and plant 130 trees. <br /> Specifications were prepared by the Municipal Services Division and bids were obtained by the City's Purchasing Division. <br /> Letting results are as follows,bid tabulations are attached: <br /> Downtown Trees <br /> Paul Tree Farms $22,165 <br /> 22nd Street Trees <br /> Paul Tree Farms $23,010 <br /> John's Hill No Utility Conflicts <br /> Paul Tree Farms $40,035 <br /> John's Hill Utility Conflicts <br /> https://decatur.novusagenda.com/AgendaWeb/CoverSheet.aspx?ltemID=3800 1/2 <br />
