3/2/22,8:49 AM Item Coversheet Public Works DATE: 2/28/2022 MEMO: 2022-12 TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council Members FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager Matt Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director SUBJECT: Motion Adopting City Council Policy Tree Planting Program SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Over the past two fiscal years,the City Council has approved funding to plant trees. There has also been a desire for a neighborhood tree planting component to the funding. The Tree Planting Program Policy,proposes to provide funding to assist property owners in planting trees on the street side of their property to enhance the street appeal of the property. The attached policy language provides an outline for a method the City can use to cost share tree planting on the street side yards of private properties. It gives property owners maximum choice in selecting the type and size of tree that they desire. The property owner will own and maintain the tree. A qualified tree provider will provide and install the tree. It requires the City to inspect the final installation prior to final payment.
