This subject site is <br /> zoned R-1 Single Family Residence District. <br /> Surrounding Land Use and Zoning <br /> Direction Existing Land Use Zoning Comprehensive Plan <br /> Subject Property Undeveloped R-1 Employment <br /> North Institutional-Heartland PD Employment <br /> Community Church <br /> South Industrial-ADM M-2 Employment <br /> East Educational-Richland R-1 Schools—Public&Private <br /> Community College <br /> West Industrial-ADM M-2 Employment <br /> PROJECT DESCRIPTION <br /> The subject petition is a request for a Conditional Use Permit to allow for the construction of a <br /> ground based satellite dish and equipment cabinet within a proposed 12' x 25' fenced compound <br /> in the R-1 Single Family Residence District. <br /> ViaSat is an Internet provider that serves remote and rural areas via a satellite connection that <br /> traditional Internet providers do not serve. Equal access to Internet and other advanced <br /> technology and information systems is critical to ensuring that businesses (farms), schools, and <br /> households remain competitive in the world economy. As such, Internet service is like a utility <br /> and now considered just as essential as electricity, water and telephone. As a utility use, the <br /> improvement is consistent with an integral part of existing and planned uses of surrounding <br /> property. When complete, this improvement will be connected to a localized fiber optic <br /> distribution network. <br />
