MEMORANDUM
DATE: May 16, 2022
TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council
FROM: Scot Wrighton, City Manger
Jon Kindseth,Deputy City Manger
SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid and Authorizing the Work of Overhead Garage
Door Repairs for Transit Facilities
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends City Council approve this Resolution to accept the bid from Taza
Construction for overhead door repairs for transit facilities.
BACKGROUND:
Decatur Pubic Transit System has multiple facilities with overhead garage doors on them.
Between the bus barn and the maintenance building there are 22 overhead garage doors for the
buses. All of these doors are the original doors since the transit facility was constructed and
opened in the 1990s. The doors needs some general wear and tear maintenance as well as some
replacement of common parts and hardware. Due to the size of this project, the City put out an
RFP for these repairs.
The City applied for and was awarded a Rebuild 1 capital grant for facilities repairs, which will
fund this project. Two contractors responded to the RFP, one local and one from Chicagoland.
Staff recommends the Chicagoland contractor, due to the significant price difference between the
two proposals (Bid sheet included as an attachment). Additionally, Taza Construction is a
minority owned business which has indicated they will likely exceed the City's goal of 20%
participation rate, and eligible for the recently created 2%bonus.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: City and Transit staff.
STAFF REFERENCE: City Manager, Scot Wrighton or Deputy City Manager,Jon Kindseth
can address any questions related to Resolution or upgrade project.
