LETTER to the DECATUR CITY COUNCIL
Finance Department
DATE: June 16, 2022
TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Scot Wrighton, City Manager
Gregg Zientara, City Treasurer&Director of Finance
SUBJECT: Resolution Incorporating Amendment of Decatur Public Library Budget
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
The City Manager recommends City Council approval of the attached Resolution incorporating an
amendment to the Decatur Public Library budget fiscal period beginning January 1, 2022 and
ending December 31, 2022 as requested and authorized by the Board of Trustees of the Decatur
Public Library.
BACKGROUND:
The Library Board of Trustees approved the library request to replace book shelving in the library
facility at the Library Board Meeting of May 19,2022.
The Library Capital Fund budget was approved by the Decatur Public Library Board and
incorporated in Council Ordinance 2021-51 adopted by Council on December 6, 2021 and
included budget authority to expend $250,000 in Library Capital Fund (#58). It is now anticipated
that the cost to replace the book shelving will cost in excess of $400,000. Therefore, it is
necessary to amend the budget to provide the approval authority sufficient to defray the cost of
the shelving and the Library Board of Directors has approved the budget amendment.
The budget amendment will add $250,000 to the council adopted budget in Library Capital Fund
(#58) thereby increasing the budget authority to $500,000. The additional budget monies
requested are available in the cash reserve position of the library capital fund.
