Starting in 2018,the City began purchasing asphalt using State MFT funds to increase the street maintenance funds allocated in <br /> the General Fund. As the City's overall street conditions decline,the amount the City expends for pothole repairs will continue <br /> to increase. <br /> Traffic Signal Cabinet Maintenance <br /> Starting in 2020,the City began budgeting the purchase of traffic signal controllers to upgrade City owned traffic signal <br /> controllers and provide spare parts to decrease the downtime due to accident or failure. Most of the City's traffic signal <br /> cabinets are 15-20 years old and are in need of replacement. This year it was budgeted to purchase 11 cabinets and controls for <br /> downtown. The equipment will be equipment/material bid meeting IDOT requirements for use of MFT funds. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> Each year the City Council appropriates State Motor Fuel Tax(MFT)funds for general street maintenance operations. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Illinois Department of Transportation <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director.
