STAFF REPORT
To: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe
City Council Members
City Manager Scot Wrighton
From: Shane Brandel, Chief of Police
Subject: Accept the Intergovernmental Agreement to share JAG Grant Solicitation
Number O-BJA-2022-1713686
BRIEFING ITEM
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It would be the recommendation of staff that the council approve the 2022 intergovernmental
agreement for acceptance and distribution of JAG funds to address violent crime.
BACKGROUND:
The Decatur Police Department applied for up to$36,081 in JAG Grant funding for the
enforcement of laws associated with violent crimes and weapon offenses. This grant is to be
shared with the Macon County Sheriff's Department (MCSO). The Decatur Police
Department is to receive 75% and the Sheriff's Department is to receive 25% of the funds.
The Decatur Police Department will be the administrator of the grant, thus all requests for
reimbursement, including those requested by MCSO, are submitted by DPD. The City of
Decatur will then receive all of the reimbursement funds, including those requested by
MCSO. The City of Decatur then disburses the requested funds to MCSO. As such, an
intergovernmental agreement between the City of Decatur and Macon County is being
requested and presented.
It should be noted that the JAG grant has been awarded to DPD numerous times in the past
and the intergovernmental agreement between the two entities has been part of the
administration of the grant.
