Information Technology
DATE: 10/3/2022
MEMO: 2022-08
TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council
FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager
James Edwards,Director Information Technology Department
SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting Presidio Networked Solutions Group,LLC (Presidio)Quote for purchase of two Master
Network Switches.
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: City Staff recommends that City Council approve the attached Resolution authorizing
a purchase from Presidio in the amount of$76,371.13 for the purchase of two Master Network Switches to replace existing units
at end of life.
BACKGROUND:
hi 2015, City Council authorized building a City Fiber extension to Richland Community College for the express purpose of
connecting into the Illinois Century Network (ICN). The ICN is a State of Illinois fiber-based Internet Service Provider (ISP)
which has presence state-wide and provides internet access service to local governments, schools, and other not for profit
entities. The City's interest in this connection was to partner with an ISP where we could purchase bulk internet service at a
discount and then re-sell to City of Decatur businesses. We currently have ten different businesses using this connection(not
including City Offices, Police, and Fire) through the two master network switches which will be at end of life on December 31,
2022. End of life means support and security updates will cease and when that happens, it places the City in a situation where
we will not have the security we need to protect our businesses using this connection.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None anticipated
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Jim Edwards,IT Director,450-2236
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: In late 2021,the City of Decatur was awarded Federal Stimulus American Rescue
Plan(ARP)funds of which a portion can be used for Fiber Broadband Infrastructure Expansions. The cost of this equipment
will be paid out of the City Council approved City Fiber Fund allocation of ARP monies (that were transferred to the city's
Enterprise Fund to support the broadband utility),Fund 77.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
Resolution Resolution Letter
Presidio Quote Backup Nhaterial
