DATE: October 13,2022
TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Scott Wrighton, City Manager
Jon Kindseth, Deputy City Manager
Lacie Elzy, Transit Administrator
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing Execution of Purchase Order Between City of
Decatur, Illinois and CDWG for Wireless Routers and Antennas to be
Purchased with Federal Grant Funding
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that this item be approved.
BACKGROUND: Currently Decatur Transit buses and paratransit vehicles are unable
to support ADA automatic stop announcements or support the new proposed electronic
fare system. The purchase of these wireless routers and LP Dome antennas will allow all
our transportation vehicles to have on-board Wi-Fi. As we add more technology to our
fleet it has become increasingly important to have reliable connectivity with every vehicle.
The installation of Wi-Fi on the Transit fleet will not only allow many more technological
improvements such as the fare system,ADA improvements, and real time locating service.
It will also provide tech equity among our citizens;DPS 61 high school students will have
access to the internet on their commute to and from school and this will also serve other
citizens who are utilizing transit.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: Staff is not aware of objections.
STAFF REFERENCE: City Council have any questions, they may contact Jon Kindseth
jkindseth(a,decaturil.gov or Lacie Elzy at 217-542-3559 or Lelzy(a),decaturil.gov Both will
attend the City Council meeting to answer questions.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Authorizes City staff to implement this public
transit technology enhancement supported and funded by federal grants.
