OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER DATE: November 7, 2022 TO: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members FROM: Scot Wrighton, City Manager Jon Kindseth, Deputy City Manager Lacie Elzy, Transit Administrator SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing Execution of an Agreement with Steve's Trucking for Partial Demolition&Deconstruction of 333 E. Macon St. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that a partial demolition be approved. BACKGROUND: The City has acquired property previously operated by Tommy House Tire at 333 E. Macon St. The site has numerous buildings as shown in the attached drawing, totaling more than 60,000 square feet. We have always anticipated demolishing some buildings due to their deteriorated conditions. Staff believes it is necessary to perform this demolition before the first major snowfall, because the existing roof is failing. Attached is a picture showing the condition of the roof. This property will have many more renovations to come over the next couple of years. Staff sought a proposal from Steve's Trucking to demo this portion of the building. We also engaged AEX to provide structural analysis and deconstruction oversight. We know that Steve's has done these types of projects in the past and can do this job within days of council authorization. This project will demo approximately 11,000 square feet of building space,while preserving the existing concrete slab. We will also need to shore up two brick walls, will become the new exterior walls of the remaining building. This work will be done by someone else at a later date. POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: Staff is not aware of objections.
