Packard. SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution authorizing execution of payment for demolition of said dwelling. BACKGROUND: The structure at 712 W. Packard was heavily damaged by fire on April 25, 2023. It was determined by the City of Decatur Neighborhood Inspections Manager that the building sustained enough catastrophic damage due to the fire, that it was in immediate danger of collapse. The City Manager used Emergency Authorization to approve the immediate demolition of this building. Prior to the fire this building was on the demolition list and slated to be put out to bid for demolition in June 2023. Emergency demolitions are avoided whenever possible because they are almost always more expensive,but when the threat to public safety is acute and imminent, emergency actions are justified.
