Employ a staff person who will be 100%dedicated to identifying individuals who are at- risk for involvement in street-level violence and who will directly or indirectly(with the assistance of partner agencies listed above)connect them to existing programs and services in the community in ways that will result in less street-level violence. This person will coordinate case management in ways that actively engage at-risk persons, meet with people identified by the Police Department as likely to be involved in gang- type violence, and their families, in an effort to find customized solutions through counseling,job training, connecting them to service providers, and other strategies that will give them more advantageous options,reduce recidivism, and offer practical alternatives to violence. $115,000 (Turner grant funds) Suppression Strategies 5. Enable and equip the Decatur Police Department to increase their violence deterrence capabilities, especially by strategically deploying new technologies and other police resources to known high-risk individuals that will not only result in more effective apprehension, but also enhance prosecutions of persons who commit violent crimes. Specialized equipment and other resources to advance the objectives of`lever pulling' and gathering evidence to aid enhanced prosecution of the worst offenders(not already included in the Police Department's current inventory and not included in the Department's current budget) include: HD surveillance cameras, purchase and outfitting of a special surveillance vehicle, specialized training for Berla We vehicle forensics, specialized Talino forensic computers, upgraded body cameras and associated software, training on how to extract criminal information from cell phones, and a providing a contribution to Decatur Crime Stoppers to enable them to increase awards for information leading to arrest and conviction of violent offenders. Under-expenditures in other grant categories will be allocated to additional suppression strategies. $285,000 (Turner grant funds) Total Program Budget $L130000 000 Staff, management and other project leaders will need to work closely with local judges to prepare them to effectively adjudicate arrests made under"lever pulling"initiatives described above.
