Church Street and owns a 360' by 160' undeveloped tract of land just <br /> south of its Community Center. OKO has been in communication with the City about the <br /> prospects of developing this parcel into a sports field, which can be utilized by city residents. A <br /> copy of the renderings completed by the city and provided to OKO is attached as Exhibit B. <br /> Access to parks and available sport facilities is crucial to creating and maintaining a healthy <br /> lifestyle. <br /> People who live closer to parks report better mental health. Time spent in green <br /> outdoor spaces has been shown to boost focus and concentration, and kids with <br /> attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD)experience milder symptoms when <br /> they play outside in a natural setting. But in some Cities as many as two-thirds of <br /> children are without access to a nearby park. The deficits are greatest in <br /> predominantly African American and Hispanic neighborhoods.2 <br /> As demonstrated below, access to outdoor recreation is severely lacking in and around the OKO <br /> neighborhood: <br /> n <br /> n <br /> I � <br /> According to Google Maps it would take an individual 45 minutes to walk from OKO to <br /> Fairview Park (2.2 miles). Walking from OKO to Torrence Park takes 33 minutes (1.6 miles) <br /> and 28 minutes(1.4 miles)to Hess Park,respectively. According to public information posted <br /> on the Decatur Park District website, none of these parks offer soccer fields.
