Public Works DATE: 6/13/2023 MEMO: 2023-58 TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members FROM: Scot Wrighton, City Manager Matt Newell,Public Works Director Keith Alexander,Water Production Manager SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid and Authorizing the Execution of a Purchase Order Furnishing Water Treatment Chemicals-Hydrofluorosilic Acid SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding a Purchase Order to Univar Solutions,USA Inc. for Hydrofluorosilicic Acid. BACKGROUND: Hydrofluorosilicic Acid is the source of fluoride added to the City's drinking water to reduce human tooth decay. Last fall,with ongoing supply chain concerns,the City opted to offer a 6-month bid for some of the treatment plant chemicals. On December 5, 2022,council authorized a 6-month Purchase Order with Univar Solutions,USA hic. for January 1,2023,through June 30,2023, in the amount of$490.00/wet ton. A new Purchase Order is required to continue purchasing this chemical through the end of the year. Staff proposes to use the 2023 Hydrofluorosilicic Acid bid tabulation received last fall: 12-Month 6-Month(Jan. through June only) Univar Solutions,USA Inc. $525.00/wet ton $490.00/wet ton Alexander Chemical Corp. $558.00/wet ton $558.00/wet ton Pennco Inc. $648.00/wet ton $648.00/wet ton Brenntag Mid South No Bid $729.00/wet ton Univar Solutions, USA Inc. provided the low bid for this chemical and has agreed to honor their 12-Month low bid of$525.00/wet ton, through the remainder of this year. PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: On December 5,2022 the council authorized a 6-month Purchase Order for Hydrofluorosilicic Acid for January 1,2023 through June 30,2023.
