9/25/23, 11:30 AM Item Coversheet
in
Public Works
DATE: 9/22/2023
MEMO: 2023-91
TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager
Matt Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Ordinance Authorizing the Installation of Stop Signs at the Intersection of North Lynette Drive at West Berry Drive
and North Lynette Place Facing West Berry Drive and North Lynette Place.
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance authorizing the installation of stop signs where Lynette Drive,Lynette
Place, and Berry Drive intersect. It is recommended the signs face Lynette Place and Berry Drive.
BACKGROUND:
City Staff was contacted by two separate residents after a reported accident occurred. The intersection is currently uncontrolled
with no yield or stop sign present.A review of accidents at this intersection did show one accident in the last three years that may
have been avoidable with stop signs. Combined with the low traffic volume of 565 vehicles per day driving through the
intersection, the accident rate is high enough to warrant installing stop signs. City staff proposes installing stop signs facing
Lynette Place and Berry Drive since Lynette Drive is the primary street with higher traffic volumes.
SCHEDULE: Stop signs are usually installed within 10 days of approval.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
There have been no prior Council actions.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No objections anticipated.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell,Public Works Director,and Don Cisco,Engineering Project Manager.Matt Newell,Public
Works Director, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Budget Impact: Budgetary impacts are approximately$200 for the installation of the requested signs and pavement markings.
Staffing Impact: Approximately 4 hours of staff time to make and install the signs.
ATTACHMENTS:
Description Type
Ordinance Authorizing the Installation of Stopigns at
the Intersection of North Lynette Drive at West Berry_ Ordinance
Drive and North Lynette Place Facing West Berry Drive
and North Lynette Place
Location Map and Report Backup Material
https://decatur.novusagenda.com/agendaweb/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=4571 1/1
