MEMO
DATE: January 16,2024
TO: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Scot Wrighton,City Manager
Jon Kindseth,Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing Amendment to the Decatur Area Visitors & Convention Bureau
Agreement
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that this simple amendment providing for a 3-year
extension to the Decatur Area Visitors&Convention Bureau Agreement be approved.
BACKGROUND: The City of Decatur has had an agreement with the Decatur Area Visitors & Convention
Bureau since 1981 providing funds to DVCB to promote tourism and community events in Decatur and Macon
County. Their role in promoting events and the community activities has changed along with the community
itself;with the most recent addition being an expansion into operating downtown events and coordinating the
Transfer House in Central Park as a publicly available facility for the community. DVCB also represents the
City, as an entity,at the Farm Progress Show every other year.
The proposed amendment does not make any other changes to the current agreement with DCVB other than
providing for a 3-year extension through 2025. The current agreement was put in place in 2020 for a 3-year
timeframe. The annual contribution to DCVB can vary from year to year depending on whether or not it is a
Farm Progress Show year. The 2024 Council adopted budget includes this $270,000 contribution in the
General Fund,City General Administration division. This expense is offset by the Hotel/Motel Tax revenues
received by the City.
STAFF REFERENCE: For any questions,City Council may contact City Manager Scot Wrighton or Deputy
City Manager Jon Kindseth.
