After Urban renewal took place in 1950s and move the Masons from downtown at the corner of Macon St. and Main St, it was apparent that the Prince Hall Masons reputation was intact and positive and wanted to continue serving the Decatur community, move to the.location of 234 East Marietta St in 1957. In 1,965 it was approved by the Prince Grand Lodge for the State of Illinois to allow the lodge that was formerly known as the Decatur Mason Lodge to name"John C. Ellis" Masonic Lodge.
