6, Georaphie Locations
Please provide a detailed explanation of the relationship between the requested honorary
street location and the honoree's impact on the City.
After Urban renewal took place in 1950s and move the Masons from downtown at
the corner of Macon St. and Main St, it was apparent that the Prince Hall Masons
reputation was intact and positive and wanted to continue serving the Decatur
community, move to the.location of 234 East Marietta St in 1957. At this location
was an old laundry mat they the masons renovated. In 1,965 it was approved by
the Prince Grand Lodge for the State of Illinois to allow the lodge that was formerly
known as the Decatur Mason Lodge to name"John C. Ellis" Masonic Lodge.
The work.that the mernbers of the Lodge has continue at this same location and it
is without a doubt contributed to the sweat, dedication and good works of the man
that went on to serve as the only Grand Master of Prince Hall Masons for the entire
state of Illinois for 20 years, from 1922-1944.
Signature of Aaolicant:
9/ 0 03%00/2024
Signature Date
