RESOLUTION NO. R <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF BODINE PROPOSAL <br /> REGARDING CITY FIBER EXTENSION FROM EISENHOWER HIGH SCHOOL TO <br /> FIREHOUSE 7 <br /> WHEREAS, the City owns, manages and maintains a 144-strand fiber infrastructure <br /> providing high speed telecommunications to the community; and, <br /> WHEREAS,the fiber infrastructure provides reliable communications and connectivity <br /> to units of local government,educational facilities, state of Illinois agencies, museums, local <br /> businesses and other facilities; and, <br /> WHEREAS,the City continues to expand its fiber communications network throughout <br /> Decatur in its goal of providing access to all parts of the community; and, <br /> WHEREAS,the Sanitary District of Decatur,IL (SDD) installed a 2-inch Fiber Conduit <br /> alongside their Forced Main pipe under Lake Decatur at Lost Bridge Road for a future fiber <br /> expansion to the east side of the lake; and, <br /> WHEREAS,the City desires to complete an underground fiber conduit path from <br /> Eisenhower High School to Firehouse 7; and, <br /> WHEREAS, there exists a need for other extensions of the fiber communications network <br /> to the east side of the City to provide future fiber access to several schools,the airport, and other <br /> entities; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the city desires to utilize Bodine Electric for the additional work required <br /> who has been a provider and installer of fiber infrastructure in the City and was involved in the <br /> conduit placed under the lake at Lost Bridge Road; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Bodine Electric is currently able to secure favorable prices and quick turn <br /> around on conduit and other materials needed for this fiber infrastructure extension; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the City desires to expedite the installation and extension of the network to <br /> the area described above and enter into an agreement for such without putting the work out for <br /> bid due to reaching a favorable agreement on price and deep experience the City has with Bodine <br /> Electric; and, <br />
