Decatur's ' <br /> economy is driven by industrial and <br /> agricultural commodity processing .. <br /> and production. The City is also <br /> home to Millikin University and 4-,r. <br /> Richland Community College. , ^'" ` :;=-; - <br /> Traffic crashes remain one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in the US. Between 2018 and 2022, Decatur <br /> experienced 24 fatal crashes and 275 serious injuries,which is slightly above the statewide average. The City of <br /> Decatur's severe crash rate was 81.0 crashes per 100,000 people compared to the statewide average of 69.8 <br /> crashes per 100,000 people. The Decatur Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (DCSAP) represents a coordinated <br /> effort to engage the public, law enforcement, City officials,and first responders in improving traffic safety for all <br /> roadway users. Successful implementation will require collaboration among all stakeholders and agencies to <br /> achieve the goal of zero traffic deaths and serious injuries. This report will be shared with the public through the <br /> City of Decatur's website. <br /> The DCSAP is a comprehensive strategy designed to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes by combining crash <br /> pattern analysis with targeted countermeasures to make Decatur streets safer for everyone. The plan meets all <br /> requirements of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program, enabling localities in the study area to apply for <br /> SS4A implementation grants to fund safety improvements. <br /> Key elements of the plan include: <br /> ij�' SETTING A PURPOSE ® PUBLICI IDENTIFYING PROVEN <br /> C.
