parties agree to strive to better wellness and fitness training for Fire Department
personnel.
The parties agree to establish a joint wellness/physical fitness committee, which
shall consist of six (6) persons, three (3) appointed by the Fire Chief and three (3)
appointed by the Union president. The committee shall meet from time to time to explain
and promote the wellness and fitness program to the employees.
ARTICLE 25 DRUG TESTING
Section 1. The use of illegal drugs and the abuse of legal drugs and alcohol by
members of the Fire Department present unacceptable risks to the safety and well-being
of other employees and the public, invite accidents and injuries, and reduce productivity.
In addition, such conduct violates the reasonable expectations of the public that the
employees who serve and protect them, obey the law, and be fit and free from the effects
of drug and alcohol abuse.
In the interest of employing persons who are fit and capable of performing their
jobs, and for the safety and well-being of employees and residents, the City and the Union
agree to establish a program that will allow the City to take the necessary steps, including
drug and/or alcohol testing, to implement a general policy regarding drugs and alcohol.
Section 2. (a) "Drugs" shall mean any controlled substance listed in 720 ILCS
570/100 et. Seq. known as the Controlled Substances Act, for which the person tested
does not submit a valid predated prescription.
