Reliable
communications equipment is essential for firefighter safety, interoperability with regional
agencies, and maintaining effective incident command operations during emergency incidents.
The department's current portable radios are aging and are increasingly requiring maintenance
and repairs. Replacement of these radios will improve communications reliability and
operational effectiveness while ensuring compatibility with the STARCOM communications
system.
The proposed purchase includes eight(8) Motorola APX 6000XE portable radios, multi-key
software licensing, AES encryption, SmartZone operation, ruggedized radio enhancements, WiFi
capability, remote speaker microphones, and related programming and communications
accessories. The radios also include five-year essential service coverage.
The APX 6000XE radios are specifically designed for public safety operations and provide
enhanced durability, improved interoperability, advanced encryption capabilities, and enhanced
communication reliability for emergency response personnel.
Approval of this resolution will authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary agreement
and associated purchase documents with Motorola Solutions, Inc.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Neil Elder, Fire Chief, 424-2811, Toby Jackson, Assistant Fire Chief,
