Council Memo
Public Works Department
No. 2026-56
DATE: 5/18/2026
TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Melissa Hon, City Manager
Matt Newell, Director of Public Works
Kelly Harrison,Procurement Officer
Chris Bergschneider,Fleet Supervisor
Byron Bowman, Municipal Services Manager
SUBJECT:
Resolution Authorizing a Sourcewell Contract for the Purchase of a Boom Mower
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding a Sourcewell Contract in the amount of
$281,000.00 to Woody's Municipal Supply Co. for the Purchase of one (1) boom arm mower.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Decatur Lake Section has requested one (1)new boom arm mower to replace one(1) boom arm
mower due to age and a broken boom arm on unit#174 that would require very extensive repairs. Unit#174
had 1560 hours at the time of the boom arm failure.
The new unit#174 for the Lake will be used to mow areas that the Municipal Services Division had
responsibility for previously. This will allow the Department to reduce the fleet by one boom mower.
The boom mower proposed for purchase has a 30'arm that will extend the mower head to mow in back of
obstacles like guardrails or fences. It can mow on steep slopes, ditches or wet areas where a mower can't
normally go.
Municipal Services Division will be selling its current mower, unit#438, a 2009 John Deere with a 24' boom
mower,to the Decatur Park District for$50,000.
The replacement mower is estimated to be delivered within 30 days.
OTHER BIDDERS: EJ Equipment: $332,480.87, Brown Equipment: $283,400.00
LEGAL REVIEW: There are no contracts for Legal to review.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
None
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objections.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
