LD26-1 3 Kenneth Comp Pond — Project Overview
1.1 Background Information
The Comp Pond was designed by Macon County Soil and Water in 1992 and
was constructed soon after. The metal pond outlet structure has since
rusted out and is failing.Attached are the original plans for pond
construction. Since failing, an attempt to fix the outlet structure was done.A
previous contractor pushed dual-wall HDPE pipe through the existing barrel,
and placed a concrete manhole as the new drop structure, and grouted the
HDPE pipe at the invert of the manhole. This solution did not hold, and water
is currently running down the side of the metal outlet structure and eroding
the dam.
1.2 Scope of Work
Contractor shalt remove and dispose of the existing metal drop structure,
concrete manhole, HDPE piping, and all concrete, debris, and sediment
present in the area of the outlet structure. Contractor shall excavate the area
of the failing outlet structure down to clay material a minimum of 8'wide.
Contractor shall cut new core trench through outlet pipe excavation and
backfill in lifts to a minimum of 95%compaction. Install new outlet structure
according the original Macon County Soil and Water specifications, however
the new structure shall be 12 gauge aluminum, rather than steel. Re-
construct pond dam to original lines and grades with clay material to a
minimum 95%compaction. Remove trees/shrubs on the dam face and
compact clay material in root zones. Spread topsoil on disturbed areas and
seed.
1.3 Pre-Bid Meeting/Site Visit
Each Contractor will be required to attend a pre-bid meeting or schedule a
site visit to view the existing failing structure and get acquainted with the
project. Coordinate with the owner or City staff to obtain access to the site.
