Council Memo
Public Works Department
No. 2026-77
DATE: 9/21/2026
TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council Members
FROM: Melissa Hon, City Manager
Matt Newell, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT:
Ordinance Authorizing the Installation of Stop Signs at the Intersection of East Kenwood Avenue and North
Central Drive facing North Central Drive
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance authorizing
the installation of stop signs where Kenwood Avenue and Central Drive intersect. It is recommended the signs
face Central Drive.
BACKGROUND:
City Staff was contacted by two separate residents after a reported accident occurred. The intersection is
currently uncontrolled with no yield or stop sign present. Following the guidelines in the Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices, installing stop signs is acceptable. City staff proposes installing stop signs facing
Central Drive since Kenwood Avenue is the primary street with higher traffic volumes.
SCHEDULE: Stop signs are usually installed within 10 days of approval.
LEGAL REVIEW:
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
None
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, Public Works Director, and Don Cisco, Engineering Project Manager.
Matt Newell, Public Works Director, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions
of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Budget Impact: Budgetary impacts are approximately$1,000 for the
installation of the requested signs.
Staffing Impact: Approximately 4 hours of staff time to make and install the signs.
ATTACHMENTS:
