McElroy and City Council <br /> FROM: Tim Gleason,City Manager <br /> SUBJECT: Request for Parking Facilities for Decatur Celebration <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution authorizing the Decatur <br /> Celebration to charge$6.00 per vehicle for parking in City Garages B(northwest corner of Water and North Streets)and C <br /> (northeast corner of Wood and Franklin Streets),City Lot A(southeast corner of Wood and Main Streets)and City Lot F <br /> (northeast corner of Wood and Main Streets)for the Decatur Celebration on August 7, 8,and 9,2015. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Decatur Celebration is scheduled for downtown Decatur on August 7 through 9,2015. As in past years,the <br /> Celebration is asking the City for permission to charge for parking in municipal parking garages B and C,as well as City <br /> lots A and F. The Celebration wishes to charge$6.00 per vehicle,which is the same rate as last year. <br /> Also, in an effort to assist retail and restaurant businesses in downtown Decatur during Celebration weekend,the <br /> Celebration will again this year have a plan to accommodate merchants'patron parking. <br /> If the Council approves this request,this will be the tenth consecutive year this organization has been granted permission to <br /> charge for parking at these facilities and retain the proceeds. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: There are no known objectors to this request. Reserved parking in the garages would not <br /> be affected by this request,and there is no reserved weekend parking in City Lots A and F. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Lori Sturgill,Producer/Director of the Decatur Celebration;Phone: 423-4222. <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: There would be no direct budget implications for the City.
