DEPARTMENT OF WATER MANAGEMENT Memorandum No. 2015-07 May 11, 2015 TO: Mayor Michael T. McElroy and City Council FROM: Tim Gleason, City Manager Keith Alexander, Director of Water Management SUBJECT: Advanced Water Metering Infrastructure Maintenance Agreement SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing an Advanced Water Metering Infrastructure Maintenance Agreement with Itron Inc. at a cost of$5,425.75 for the first year. BACKGROUND: In 2013 the City entered into an agreement with Johnson Controls, Inc. to provide an Advanced Water Metering Infrastructure consisting of electronic hardware and software installed at numerous locations throughout the City. The infrastructure automatically collects data from all of the City's water meters. The software translates the data so that City staff can provide water customer service functions, including municipal utility billing. The Johnson Controls agreement requires the City to have a maintenance agreement with Itron. Due to the complex nature of the hardware and software, City staff also recommends that an agreement be authorized. The first year cost to the City will be $5,425.75 as Johnson Controls will provide $8,730.00 toward the first year cost at no charge to the City. City costs for additional years are estimated to be approximately $15,000 as Johnson Controls is only providing funds for the first year. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: None foreseen.
