CSX adjusted (raised)the track approximately 4 inches (0.34 feet) in 2011. The 2007 road profile
data from the aerial exhibit was adjusted to approximate the current approach grades.
2. Staff recommends that the City pay 100% of the costs to rehabilitate the northeast highway
approach to meet the minimum requirements of 92 III. Adm. Code 1535.204 and to re-apply the
required pavement markings. Staff recommends that a variance from the requirements of 92 lll. Adm.
Code 1535.204 be granted to allow maintenance of the existing grades on the southwest highway
approach, as the close proximity and elevation differential between the CSX tracks and US Route 36
makes rehabilitation of the southwest approach grades cost prohibitive. Staff recommends that the
cost to. rehabilitate and maintain the northeast highway approach and re-apply the markings be
considered the City's contribution to the project.
3. In light of the City's 100% proposed cost share for rehabilitating the northeast highway approach
and pavement marking renewal, Staff recommends that the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF)
be used to pay 100%of the costs to install the railroad interconnect cable from the junction box mounted
on the outside of the new railroad crossing signal bungalow to the existing traffic signal controller unit, in
an amount not to exceed $27,000.
