Bauer, Assistant City Manager <br /> PKay Nuernberger, Systems Administrator <br /> SUBJECT: Storage and Server for Virtual Infrastructure <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council approve the <br /> attached resolution, authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with Netech <br /> Corporation for the purchase of a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) server, and <br /> additional storage for the City's network that will provide for expanded production <br /> storage capacity and replacement of current disaster recovery storage. <br /> BACKGROUND: Recently, the City standardized on Netech Corporation to provide IT <br /> solutions for both hardware and software support. At present, the City is in the process of <br /> migrating to a virtual desktop infrastructure, and is in need of securing an additional <br /> server to ensure the success of this change at the enterprise-wide level. Cost for the <br /> server for the additional desktops is $13,574.20. <br /> Additionally, the City is in need of upgrading both its production and disaster recovery <br /> storage capacities in a timely manner. The City's virtual data storage is at a crucial point, <br /> due in a large part to aggressive growth in digital imagery retained by the City, as well as <br /> normal business data demands to support an ever-increasing number of departmental <br /> approved projects. <br /> With regard to disaster recovery storage, the recommended solution will also allow the <br /> City to re-purpose currently-deployed production storage infrastructure to replace our 8 <br /> year old disaster recovery storage that is no longer fully adequate in size, and experiences <br /> periodic hardware failures. This storage would be located off-site, which would provide <br /> the unit with greater data protection capabilty. <br /> The proposed solution will meet necessary requirements for both production and disaster <br /> recovery storage expansions. Total cost for the storage upgrade would be $67,135.03; it <br /> would effectively double current production storage capacity, and would also provide for <br /> current and foreseeable disaster recovery data needs. <br /> 1 <br />
