Public Works Memorandum <br /> No.2015— 14 <br /> DATE: March 30,2015 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Tim Gleason, City Manager <br /> Richard G. Marley,Public Works Director <br /> Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid of Jackson Ford,Decatur,IL,for the Purchase of <br /> Five(5) Ford 2016,Police Interceptor Mid Size Utility Vehicles <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding a contract in the amount of <br /> $134,357.00 to Jackson Ford, Decatur,IL,to furnish five(5)Ford 2016, Police Interceptor Utility <br /> vehicles. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Police Department is replacing court seized vehicles. Three (3) of the new <br /> Police Interceptors will be used by Police Command and two (2) will be added for traffic control. <br /> The Command Interceptors will replace three (3) civilian vehicles which are not marked and are not <br /> pursuit rated. The replacement vehicles are estimated to be delivered in 180 days or less. <br /> OTHER BIDDERS: Eight(8)bid proposals were sent out with three(3)bid returned. <br /> Bob Ridings of Taylorville, IL. bid of$142,945.00 and did not meet all the specifications. Miles <br /> Chevrolet of Decatur responded with a bid of$168,435.00. Purchasing the vehicles from Jackson <br /> Ford at a cost of$134,357.00 is perceived to be in the best interest of the City as a whole, and is <br /> recommended. <br /> DISPOSAL OF REPLACED UNIT: The old five(5)units will then be sold utilizing an auction <br /> service that specializes in disposing of used government equipment. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: Vendors offering other makes and models of police interceptor <br /> vehicles may object to this request. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Police Department requested the vehicle. Fleet Maintenance <br /> wrote the bid specifications based on Police Department requirements. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Richard G. Marley, Public Works Director, Rennie A. Young, Fleet <br /> Supervisor, and Brad L. Sweeney,Chief of Police. Richard G. Marley will be in attendance at the <br /> City Council meeting to answer any questions of the Council on this item. <br /> This memorandum was prepared by Rennie A. Young, Fleet Supervisor. <br /> BUDGET IMPLICATIONS: Funding for the expenditure is available with Police Drug and DUI <br /> FY2015 Budget. <br /> Attachments: 2 <br /> Page I 1 <br />
