Zientara, Interim City Manager SUBJECT: Reciprocal Agreement on Exchange of Information between the City of Decatur and the State of Illinois, Department of Revenue pursuant to Illinois Retailers' Occupation Tax Act, Service Occupation Tax Act, Use Tax Act and the Service Use Tax Act SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing the Mayor of the City of Decatur to enter into such agreement as required by the Department of Revenue to enable the City of Decatur to receive periodic information concerning sales tax and other tax disclosures as identified in the subject of this memorandum, for the purpose of informational sharing of tax revenues derived from City of Decatur sources. City ability to have access to such information is necessary for City understanding of certain primary revenue sources funding City operations. BACKGROUND: The City of Decatur has received such informational disclosures from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue in the past. This agreement simply renews and affirms the previous arrangements between the City of Decatur and the State of Illinois Department of Revenue concerning the provision of such information. This agreement allows the City of Decatur access to confidential State of Illinois information regarding sales and use tax information concerning those business enterprises subject to sales and use tax operating within the City of Decatur. The agreement stipulates City requirements to the safeguarding of such information as confidential and proprietary. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this ordinance request.
