APPENDIX B
UNION STREET SEWER REHABILITATION OVERVIEW
The Union Street Sewer begins just west of the intersection of Cerro Gordo Street and Edward Street
and extends south to the Sanitary District owned Lincoln Park CSO facility on the Sangamon River.
The Union Street Sewer is one of the oldest sewers in Decatur, dating back to the early twentieth
century, and sections of it have been replaced and re-routed over the decades. The original pipe was
brick construction with an egg-shaped cross section and it has been overlaid with a cement liner. A
few more recently constructed pipe segments were constructed using concrete circular pipe. Figures
1 through 6 depict examples of the deficiencies noted inside the Union Street Sewer.
Hole in Invert z4"connection
with Crock and
InMtration stain
Pik STNp
Union Street-54^egg
Union Street-54"pipe shaped p
Figure 1.
