Alexander, Director of Water Management <br /> SUBJECT: Agricultural Watershed Institute <br /> Watershed Research and Education Agreement <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing an agreement with the Agricultural Watershed <br /> Institute (AWI) for Watershed Research and Education at a cost not to exceed$104,166. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Since 2006 the City has annually funded watershed research and education services with AWI. The <br /> previous agreement provided up to $62,500 annually which is equivalent to $5,208.33 monthly. The <br /> proposed agreement is for the 20 month period from May 1, 2014 to December 31, 2015 for the <br /> monthly equivalent of$5,208.30 or $104,166 over 20 months. The agreement is a cost reimbursable <br /> arrangement with monthly invoicing that is also successfully used by the City in similar agreements <br /> with the Macon Co. Soil &Water Conservation District. <br /> The attached agreement describes the services that AWI will provide to the City, including: <br /> • Sediment and nutrient best management practices <br /> • Water resources planning and management <br /> • Perennial biomass crops grown for renewable energy, forage and water quality <br /> • Shared learning program <br /> Also attached is AWI's Progress Report for May to December 2013. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTION: <br /> None foreseen. <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: <br /> Keith D. Alexander, Director of Water Management, 217-424-2863, kalexander@decaturil.gov <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: <br /> This expenditure is annually included in the Lake Services operating budget.
